My Favorite Color Is Golden | Golden Color Symbolism

Abstract liquid gold art representing the spiritual meaning of the color golden and inner alchemy.

“There are days when light doesn’t come from without, but within. Golden was born on one such day.”

The sunset, with its rays whispering final goodbyes for the day, had all my attention. I sat near the window watching liquid gold gather over everything it touched. In that gilded hush, I realized something embarrassingly simple: Golden had become the language of my soul.

I was moved to take up my pen. Not because I had decided to write about color symbolism, nor because I had found some universal meaning hidden inside a wavelength of light. I simply needed to name what this particular color had come to hold for me: sovereignty, yearning, divinity, beauty, distance, memory, and the ache of becoming.

It was not planned or summoned. It arrived like sunlight slipping through a crack in a closed room. What follows is part poem, part symbolic autobiography: my attempt to honor something I cannot hold but remain endlessly drawn to.

Golden

My favorite color is Golden.

Everything that shimmers is Golden.

Everything ethereal must have at least a sliver of gold in it.

It makes you look at it.

It twinkles in the corner of your eyes

until you are forced to turn your head and view it.

It has a way of catching your attention.

You can’t ignore it.

You can never attempt to outshine it.

It’s the highest of the high. The shiniest of the shiniest.

It is beyond comparable, beyond our touch, beyond our senses.

So to speak.

It is everything that we cannot be, yet strive to be.

Not just a color,

It is a realm; a stage.

It is that elusive state that humanity has been striving for;

and yet has fallen short.

It is that way of life that we can’t remember,

Yet we live it through memory, through our being.

It cannot be conquered, for it is free.

It sits high and mighty on this high horse.

No matter how many times we want it to come down, it won’t.

Because it is Golden.

And one day, we learn that it doesn’t come down to our level;

We need to rise to it.

My favorite color is Golden.

It took me 28 years to realize that my favorite color is Golden.

Golden Color Symbolism: Fragments from the Golden Realm

Why Are We Drawn to the Color Gold?

This wasn’t just a poem but a long-brewing revelation. The kind that takes years of life to form. It took a hundred different shades of yearning to realize that Golden was the language of my soul. It is not like a soft cream, nor romantic like a rose. To me, it is regal. Sovereign. Almost demanding reverence and devotion.

Gold has carried very different meanings across different times and traditions. In ancient Egypt, its permanence and brilliance were associated with divinity, the sun, and the bodies of the gods; funerary uses could also connect it with rebirth. In European alchemical traditions, gold became both a literal goal of transmutation and, in some contexts, an image of incorruptibility or perfected matter. Gilding also appears extensively in devotional art across several Buddhist cultures, though its meanings belong to those particular religious and artistic contexts rather than to one universal “gold symbolism.”

I am less interested in proving that all of these traditions meant the same thing than in noticing why their very different uses of gold resonate with my own symbolic imagination. History gives me correspondences, not a single inherited doctrine.

For me, Golden is the color of becoming

Of the divinely untouchable. It twinkles at the edge of your awareness until you must look. In my imagination, it is not merely touched by light. It behaves as though it remembers where light came from. To me, it echoes with the memory of a paradise I cannot remember and yet somehow ache for.

Golden, in such moments, is the untouched part of you, glowing in defiance. The myth, the muse, the mirror. It is the sun’s final goodbye kiss before nightfall. A memory. A mystery.

It is a presence that calls to us like a siren song in moments when we are moon-kissed and love-touched. It is divinity itself dressed as light.

For me, loving Golden has become a way of naming the yearning for transcendence: the desire to rise toward something more luminous without pretending I have already arrived there. Golden is the crown I didn’t know I wore until I caught its glint in my reflection.

The Resonance Space: Reflecting on Golden Color Symbolism

A poem lands differently in each person. Before you write – close your eyes and say the word Golden out loud. Notice whether the word seems to gather anywhere in your body: chest, throat, behind the eyes, nowhere at all. Begin with whatever you actually notice.

A Somatic Meditation on Golden Light and Inner Transformation

Golden. Say it slowly. Where, if anywhere, do you feel the word? Chest? Throat? Behind your eyes? Let sensation, image, memory, or absence become the starting point rather than forcing an answer.

Reflect on it.

  1. What does Golden feel like in your body — not your mind?
  2. What part of you has been waiting to rise to its own level, instead of asking the light to come down?
  3. If your soul had a color today, what would it be — and what is it waiting to become?

Write It. (Your Creative Echo)

Begin with: “It took me ___ years to know that I am…”

Do not finish it comfortably. Finish it truly.

Carry it with you.

Carry one golden object this week. A ring. A coin. A thread. When you touch it, remember: some things don’t descend to your level. You rise to theirs.
